Students in Calgary are being faced with a number of choices when it comes to selecting a method of upgrading. How do you choose the option that works best with your learning style?

Teaching not only what to learn but how to learn is a core concept of TutorTag's Calgary philosophy. We often refer to this as the hidden curriculum. Students always seem to ask the question "why are we learning this?" or "I'm never going to use this". This is what we know of as the hidden curriculum.

Throughout the last 15 years there have been many technological advances. Fast computers, robots, iPads, Facebook, to name a few. There is one in particular that is growing in throughout education - online tutoring. We have heard many parents and students give explanations of online tutoring in the past. Questions like: Is online tutoring through email? Skype? Over the phone? It turns out that the vast majority of people don't actually know what online tutoring is. We thought we would explain it for Albertans who are curious.

A recent CBC news article, found here, found that 36% of principals feel that new Calgary teachers are unprepared when they hit the classroom.

We would like to announce our new tutoring platform for Calgary and Edmonton. We are excited about this new opportunity for our tutors and clients. Tutoring can be a difficult task to manage. Our goal is to connect qualified tutors with clients seeking tutoring and minimize the behind the scenes realities of tutoring (scheduling, billing, communicating et cetera).

Online tutoring is a new method of tutoring and is increasingly getting more popular. Some parents and students are initially unsure of online tutoring because of the many preconceptions of the quality compared to in home tutoring.

CBC recently reported new enrollment figures showing an extra 2000 students in catholic schools in the fall.  Additionally, Calgary’s population increased by 30,000 in 2012.  This has put tremendous pressure on the school system to keep up. Gary Strother, chief superintendent of the Calgary Catholic School District has stated that “we need more schools in the district”.

There are many students who live in rural communities like Chestermere, Cochrane, Bragg Creek, Priddis, Millarville, and other rural communities surrounding Calgary, AB. These students often take their schooling through Alberta Distance Learning (ADL) which is a method of learning without physically being in a classroom. Students submit modules which are then graded by ADL
