Ahmed worked all summer for a bee farmer. Ahmed was paid $400.00 the first week. The farmer paid a $50.00 raise per week for each additional week of employment. Ahmed worked on the bee farm for 8 weeks before his first year of university began.

Ive figured a and b but im confused with question c and d.

a. Write out the first three weeks of earnings. Is this an arithmetic or geometric sequence? Justify

b. Calculate how much Ahmed earned over the 8 weeks of summer.

c. The money Ahmed earned over the summer was used for miscellaneous expenses at university. At the start of the ninth week of school he had $3 000.00 in his bank account. How much money did Ahmed spend each week?

d. The school year is approximately 32 weeks long. Will Ahmed have enough money if he continues to spend his savings at the same rate?

Part C:

He starts with $4600 (as calculated in part B), and after 8 weeks of university, he has $3000. We will assume this question wants the average amount spent each week, so we divide the money spent by the number of weeks.

 $\frac{4600-3000}{8}=\frac{1600}{8}=200$460030008 =16008 =200

Ahmed spends an average of $200 each week.

Part D:We want to make sure he has enough for the END of the final week. A formula is developed, and it has the form of a linear equation. At the beginning ("week 0") he has $4600, so this is the constant term. He spends 200 each week, and the formula becomes:

 $s=4600-200n$s=4600200n

Where s represents Ahmed's savings, and n is the number of weeks. Try this formula for week 8 to be sure it works (it does). Now, just use 32 as n. If the result is positive, he has enough money; if it is negative, he does not have enough money. In this case, it is -1800, so he does not have enough money.
