Different signals can initiate the secretion of hormones from glands, this can include changes in the environment or the attachment of a specific ligand to the cell releasing exocytosis, the most common type of the neuroendocrine junction where a nerve signal can release a neurotransmitter that attaches to the endocrine cell initiating exocytosis the hormone. Hope this helps!
